The Ontario Workplace Health Coalition (OWHC) acknowledges disability management as factor within the Occupational Health and Safety element of the Healthy Workplace Model for comprehensive workplace health.
The Ontario Workplace Health Coalition (OWHC) on December 1st, 2022 at 10:00 am EST, hosted a virtual session dedicated to the integration between health promotion (workplace health) and disability management. The OWHC 2022 Annual General Meeting (AGM) followed for OWHC individual and organizational members.
In the virtual session, Wolfgang Zimmerman (Executive Director, NIDMAR) to spoke to building a culture of accommodation and inclusion for disabled workers, and the Special Federal Initiative from NIDMAR in return-to-work (RTW)/disability management (DM) for Canadian Workplaces. This session followed prior OWHC events covering themes such as Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) and sustainable healthy workplace programs, with practical next steps around an effective disability management program.

Wolfgang’s keynote shared definitions of key terms in disability management, how accessibility can be on the radar for workplace health professionals, universal key success factors, disability management in context across Canada, and cover the interplay between disability management and health promotion strategies for prevention outcomes. Further in his keynote, Wolfgang’s mentioned the NIDMAR Special Federal Initiative in RTW/DM for Canadian Workplaces to share the support available for Canadian residents in terms of continuing education and designations, as well as the support available for Canadian workplaces to assess their disability management program.
